Our 92nd Season of Preforming Great Music in the Sarasota area!
Talented musicians donate their time to rehearse and perform before enthusiastic audiences coming from the greater Sarasota area and worldwide during vibrant Fall and Winter tourist season.
Each season, Suncoast Concert Band offers a series of concerts, from November to April, that allows local musicians the opportunity to perform and audiences to enjoy a wide variety of music!
The downbeat for a Suncoast Concert Band rehearsal is at 9:30AM. It implies that no one playing in the band is going to a day job. That “work” is to attend the rehearsal, be on time and be prepared for that rehearsal. And because of the time of day for the rehearsal, it tells you that the average age is retired. From November to May the Suncoast Concert Band performs on a 4 cycle rotation of 3 rehearsals and a concert; new music every concert. This commitment to the band, to each other and to the music creates an extraordinary bond within the ensemble.
From its humble beginnings as the Sarasota Trailer Park Band to its present day concert hall ensemble, this 93 year old musical organization has had only 10 conductors. Because of its commitment to rigorous programming it has long been the home for talented musicians who have gravitated to Florida; band directors, music teachers, college professors, professional musicians, sincere community band members and dedicated amateurs revisiting their musical past.
Bob Stoll has been the Suncoast band director since 2005. One of the reasons he took the job was because he sensed the family-like relationship among band members. That was 20 years ago and to this day Bob works tirelessly to make that idea his core mission for the band. He spends countless hours creating balanced, lively and timely programs that fit into musical themes that he creates. In rehearsals he strives to balance his demand for high musical expectations with humor, stories, and compassion for present and past members. The Suncoast Concert Band is a family of musicians brought together to play a lot of music and have a good time doing it.
